KNUST JHS Secures Back-to-Back Victory in 2024 Junior Science and Maths Quiz

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Basic Junior High School (JHS) has emerged victorious in the 2024 edition of the Junior Science and Maths Quiz (JSMQ), winning the competition for the second consecutive year. The Grand finale, held on 20th November 2024, at the CCB Auditorium, saw KNUST JHS beat SOS Hermann Gmeiner Tamale JHS and Best Brain Academy in a highly competitive contest.

The competition opened with an electrifying start in Round One, as KNUST JHS took an early lead with nine points. SOS Hermann Gmeiner followed closely with eight points, while Best Brain Academy was behind with six points.

In the Second Round, KNUST Basic JHS maintained their dominance, extending their lead to 16 points. SOS Hermann Gmeiner kept the competition tight with 14 points, while Best Brain Academy struggled to keep up, ending the round with eight points.

The momentum shifted in the Science and Technology Challenge Round, where SOS Hermann Gmeiner showcased their problem-solving skills. They scored nine points, overtaking KNUST Basic JHS, who managed only two points. Best Brain Academy also performed impressively in this round, matching SOS Hermann Gmeiner's nine points.

The Decoding the Clues Round marked a turning point for KNUST Basic JHS as they regained momentum, adding eight points to their score. Both SOS Hermann Gmeiner and Best Brain Academy struggled in this round, failing to earn any points.

The Final Round, the Nobel Prize Innovation Challenge, sealed the fate of the contest. KNUST Basic JHS added five points to their tally, bringing their total to 31 points. SOS Hermann Gmeiner and Best Brain Academy earned no points and four points respectively, in this round.

With 31 points, KNUST Basic JHS emerged as champions, retaining their title. SOS Hermann Gmeiner finished second with 23 points, and Best Brain Academy placed third with 21 points.

As part of the prize package, the winner, KNUST Basic JHS, received a cash award of GHS 10,000. SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Tamale, who secured second place, was awarded GHS 7,000, while Best Brain Academy, who received the third place, received GHS 5,000.
