St. Nicholas Anglican JHS and Elmina Methodist “B” Schools from Central Region Qualify for National JSMQ
Two schools from the Central Region, St. Nicholas Anglican Junior High School (JHS) and Elmina Methodist “B” JHS, have secured their places at the national level of the Junior Science and Math Quiz (JSMQ). The national contest is scheduled to take place from 18 to 23, November 2024, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The regional qualifiers were held at the University of Cape Coast from 30th September to 3rd October 2024, where 14 schools participated across seven contests. The schools displayed outstanding academic brilliance throughout the qualifiers.
In the first contest, Elmina Methodist 'A' JHS emerged victorious with 32 points, defeating Assin Bereku Presbyterian School and Asuansi Agri Experimental D/A Basic School. St. Nicholas Anglican JHS claimed victory in the second contest, securing 40.5 points to beat Enyanmaim Islamic JHS and Narkwa Methodist School.
The third contest was won by Ekwankrom SDA School, who triumphed with 34 points, beating Pedu M/A “B” Basic School and Flowers Gay School, who couldn’t make it to the contest. The fourth contest saw a highly competitive battle, with University JHS narrowly losing to Papaase Catholic Basic School by just one point, 33 to 32.
Elmina Methodist ‘B’ JHS continued their impressive run, winning the fifth contest with 32 points against Pleasant Living Spring Academy and Afransi D/A JHS. The qualifiers ended in an intense final showdown between Elmina Methodist 'A', St. Nicholas Anglican JHS, and Pedu M/A B Basic School, where St. Nicholas took the lead with 37 points.
Elmina Methodist 'B' JHS closed the qualifiers in style, securing their national spot with 39 points, knocking out University JHS and Narkwa Methodist in the last contest.
This marks the first time Central Region schools are competing in the JSMQ, with the region newly added to the competition. With their qualification, both schools will represent the Central Region at the National JSMQ finals, joining other regional champions for what promises to be a thrilling national competition.
